Gifts to your Sponsored Child - Frequently Asked Questions

Giving gifts is a great way to tangibly show your love to your sponsored child! We encourage you to give to your sponsored child in a manner that is sensitive to their culture and lifestyle. To make the most of giving to your sponsored child, please look through the following Frequently Asked Questions.

Can a special monetary gift be given to my sponsored child for their birthday?

At this time, we are not able to facilitate requests to send birthday gifts to your sponsored child. Donations that are designated for gifts will be placed in our Christmas Gift Fund to be dispersed to our projects.

Can I buy my sponsored child a gift and send it with my letter?

Due to high international shipping costs and customs regulations, we cannot send anything to your sponsored child larger than what fits in a 9 1/2” x 4 1/8” (#10) envelope. For example, it costs nearly $150 to send a one-pound package to Swaziland. In the interest of good stewardship, we strive to keep our shipping costs low.

Can I ask my sponsored child what type of gift they would like?

Please do not ask your sponsored child what type of gift they would like from you. In many cultures, such a question would put them in an awkward, uncomfortable position.

Are the funds I give to the Christmas Gift Fund used only for my sponsored child?

As stated in our communications, the funds raised in the Christmas Gift Fund are disbursed to all of our projects based on the number of children who attend the project. This is to ensure that every single child we serve receives a Christmas gift, regardless of whether they have a sponsor or not.
